One person reads all of it. Corrections jump the queue over everything else.
Everything sent here lands with the same person. That means replies are slower than somewhere with a mailroom, and it means nothing disappears into a routing system.
Corrections come first. Name the page and the detail, and it gets checked and fixed with a line saying what changed.

When you will hear back
Notes are read Thursday through Monday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Central. Tuesday and Wednesday the desk is out, so anything arriving then waits until Thursday morning.
A reply normally lands inside two working days. Corrections move quicker than that, since verifying a gauge reading is less work than answering a good question properly.
Worth writing about
A correction. The most useful message this paper gets. A closed road, a gate that now locks at dusk, a ferry that stopped running, a boat ramp under water.
A gauge reading you took yourself. Genuinely useful, particularly from the smaller tributaries where public readings are thin.
A reach worth walking. Suggestions are read with real interest, especially within three hours of Memphis. No promise that one becomes a piece, and no payment offered or accepted in either direction.
Reuse of a photograph. Every image here was made for this paper and belongs to the company. Editorial and non commercial reuse is usually agreed. Tell the desk where it would run and what the credit would say.
What this desk cannot do
- Book anything, change anything or refund anything. Nothing is sold here.
- Help with a specific airline, hotel or booking service. This paper holds no accounts with them.
- Add a business or a place in exchange for payment. There is no advertising on this site.
- Trade links. There are no outbound editorial links anywhere on this site.
What becomes of a message

Post and telephone
Post reaches the office listed on the about page, which is a shared building rather than a home address, and it is slower than email by a wide margin.
The telephone is answered during desk hours by the person who writes the paper.
